How do I use folders Smead final tab?

I just bought a package of Smead end tab folders and it seems that you have to cut the paper to you to slide the paper into the locking tabs. Am I doing something wrong? Please help, thx. Oh yes and I thought this would be best to make this section question, I'm sure many of you probably use them. If you're talking about the cardboard slips that are inserted into the plastic? Usually come in a strip perferations. Double and tear on the perferations. Then fold in the fold and insert into the plastic chip. The strips can put it through a typewriter.
